TLDR Wearing a hijab doesn't affect scalp health if worn dry and without existing scalp issues.
This study, conducted with 60 participants, found no significant difference in scalp hydration and pH values between hijab-wearing and non-hijab-wearing women, suggesting that wearing a hijab does not impact scalp barrier function. Various factors, such as hijab material and shampooing frequency, were controlled, and participants avoided hair products before measurements. The study concluded that hijab-wearing women without underlying scalp disorders should not worry about scalp barrier impairment, as long as the hijab is not worn in a wet condition. Future research could include transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and consider shampoo and hair type for more comprehensive results.
