TLDR Scalp cooling can help prevent hair loss from chemotherapy without raising cancer spread risk.
Scalp cooling was shown to prevent chemotherapy-induced hair loss in some cancer patients with solid tumors, without increasing the risk of scalp metastasis. Advances in cool cap technology and reduced post-chemotherapy cooling durations could enhance its use. The article reviewed recent research, guidelines, and products, and discussed the role of nurses and organizations in providing scalp cooling. It also highlighted efforts to identify genes linked to hair loss and international collaborations aimed at improving patient experiences.
