TLDR Sarcoidosis can cause scarring hair loss on the scalp, which is rare.
This document reported a rare case of sarcoidosis of the scalp presenting as cicatricial alopecia in a 43-year-old woman from India, marking the first such report from the country. The patient experienced progressive hair loss over 7 months, leading to scarring alopecia. Histopathological examination revealed noncaseating epithelioid granulomas, confirming the diagnosis of sarcoidosis. Treatment with systemic corticosteroids halted further hair loss but did not result in hair regrowth. The case highlighted the importance of histopathology in diagnosing alopecia and suggested that sarcoidosis-induced alopecia might often be misdiagnosed without proper evaluation.
