The Use of Rosmarinus Officinalis in the Treatment of Alopecia: An Integrative Review

Amanda da Silva Santos, Lilian Michelle Pontes dos Santos Martins
TLDR Rosemary oil can help hair growth and is as effective as some traditional treatments but with fewer side effects.
This integrative review examined the scientific evidence on the use of rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis) for treating hair loss, focusing on its safety and efficacy. The review included studies from 2014 to 2025 involving both animal and human models. Findings indicate that rosemary oil can stimulate hair growth, improve hair density and thickness, and has similar efficacy to traditional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride, but with fewer side effects. It enhances microcirculation around hair follicles and possesses antioxidant properties. Despite its promising potential, further well-controlled clinical studies are necessary to confirm its long-term effectiveness and safety for human use.
