TLDR Rosemary extract may increase the risk of wound opening after surgery.
This study investigated the effects of Rosmarinus officinalis extract on wound healing, colon anastomosis, and postoperative adhesion in rats. Fourteen rats were divided into two groups: a control group receiving an isotonic solution and a treatment group receiving 2% Rosmarinus officinalis extract. The results showed no significant difference in macroscopic adhesion scores or anastomotic burst pressure between the groups. However, the wound tensile strength was significantly lower in the Rosmarinus group, suggesting that the extract may increase the risk of evisceration at the abdominal incision site in the early postoperative period.
