TLDR Wnt and Shh signaling are key in noggin-induced tumors, and blocking them can slow tumor growth.
The study explores the role of Wnt and Shh signaling in noggin-induced tumorigenesis in hair follicles of transgenic mice. BMP inhibition up-regulates Wnt and Shh signaling, leading to hair follicle-derived tumors. Pharmacological inhibitors of Wnt and Shh pathways significantly slowed tumor formation, indicating their therapeutic potential. BMP4 treatment suppressed Shh expression, showing an antagonistic relationship between BMP and Shh pathways. The research highlights Wnt signaling's role in tumor initiation and Shh signaling's role in tumor growth, suggesting new cancer therapy targets.
