Investigating the Role of Mef2c in Hair Follicle Cycling
TLDR MEF2C is crucial for normal hair cycle progression.
This study investigates the role of myocyte enhancer factor 2c (MEF2C) in hair follicle cycling, focusing on its interaction with the dermal papilla (DP) cells that regulate hair regeneration. Using DP-specific conditional knockouts (cKO) of Mef2c, researchers observed a significant delay in the early stages of catagen in hair follicles, suggesting MEF2C's crucial role in hair cycle progression. Preliminary findings indicate that SRY-box transcription factor 18 (Sox18), a binding partner of MEF2C, is upregulated in cKO mice, hinting at a potential regulatory mechanism. Understanding this interaction could lead to new treatments for hair loss disorders.
