TLDR A wireless, battery-free system uses Wi-Fi signals to enhance wound healing and enable smart healthcare at home.
The study introduces a wireless, battery-free bioelectronic system that enhances wound healing by harvesting RF energy from ambient Wi-Fi signals, effective over distances beyond 8 meters. It uses flexible, biocompatible molybdenum-based electrodes for electrical stimulation, promoting keratinocyte migration, collagen deposition, angiogenesis, and hair follicle regeneration. In vivo experiments on mice showed significant wound closure acceleration, achieving 91.6% closure by Day 14 compared to 29.1% in controls. The system's closed-loop capability allows adaptive wound care, supported by smartphone control, suitable for home and clinical use. Transcriptomic analysis indicates modulation of inflammatory pathways and activation of regenerative gene programs, suggesting potential for advanced wound management and regenerative medicine.
