TLDR AMPD is a better and less damaging alternative to ammonium hydroxide for hair bleaching.
The study found that using 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD) instead of ammonium hydroxide for hair bleaching resulted in better decoloration, less protein loss, and less cuticle damage. AMPD-treated hair also retained higher antioxidant activity, had a higher gloss measurement, and emitted less pungent odor. Key findings included a significant reduction in protein loss (40.4 μg/mg hair vs. 67.4 μg/mg hair), fewer cuticle holes, and more uniform oxygen distribution on the hair surface. The study concluded that AMPD is a more effective and less damaging alternative to ammonium hydroxide for hair bleaching.
