TLDR Low-dose oral minoxidil effectively treats mild-moderate male hair loss, alone or combined with other therapies.
This document is a reply to a study on the use of very low dose oral minoxidil for male androgenetic alopecia. The authors of the reply state that they consider 5mg/day of oral minoxidil to be an effective therapy for mild-moderate male AGA, and that it can be used in monotherapy or combined with other topical or oral therapies. They also suggest that the combination of oral minoxidil with oral dutasteride is one of the most effective therapies for male AGA. The authors note that oral minoxidil has a faster clinical response than most AGA therapies, and that it may be beneficial for young patients with moderate AGA, those with low compliance, local intolerance, or no response to topical minoxidil. However, they caution that its use as a first-line treatment for AGA should be individualized, and further controlled studies are needed to determine its efficacy and safety.

A study explored the treatment of Sisaipho alopecia areata, a rare variant of AA characterized by hair loss on the top of the scalp while sparing the temporal and occipital areas, using tofacitinib and oral minoxidil. The combination of these treatments showed promise in managing this challenging condition, which typically presents as nonscarring hair loss and can be difficult to treat.
