TLDR A combined treatment with microneedling and vitamin D3 led to complete hair regrowth in a woman with stubborn patch alopecia areata.
This case report describes a 44-year-old female with refractory patch alopecia areata who achieved complete clinical and trichoscopic remission using a multi-modal treatment protocol. The protocol included systemic vitamin D3 supplementation (5,000 IU/day), 10 sessions of microneedling, and topical application of high-dose vitamin D3. Significant hair regrowth was observed by week 12, with complete regrowth by week 20. The patient's vitamin D levels improved from 18.2 ng/mL to 41.5 ng/mL. While the exact contribution of each treatment component is unclear, the case suggests that a combined approach may be effective for refractory patch alopecia areata and warrants further study.
