TLDR Impure benzeneseleninic anhydride samples cause lower finasteride intermediate yields.
The study investigates the inconsistent behavior of the yield of finasteride intermediate when reacted with benzeneseleninic (BS) anhydride. The study found that commercial BS anhydride samples did not always consist of the pure anhydride form, and when the BS acid was present in the anhydride sample, the reaction rate was lower than that of the pure BS anhydride sample. The study aimed to interrogate the causes of the low or nonexistent yields of FIN using the specific batches of BS anhydride samples.
