TLDR Radish saponin extract may help grow hair in balding mice.
The study conducted five years ago investigated the hair restoration efficacy of radish saponin extracts on nude mice, which are genetically predisposed to pattern balding. The results showed that the topical application of radish saponin stimulated hair growth in these mice by repairing the follicular keratin differentiation defect. The hair density of the treated mice significantly increased compared to the control group. Histological observation revealed that the treatment groups had fully formed hair follicles, with the number of hair follicles being up to three times higher than that of the control group. Furthermore, the number of BrdU-labeled keratinocytes per anagen follicle and the number of BrdU-labeled epidermal keratinocyte proliferation significantly increased in the treated mice compared to the control mice. This suggests that radish saponin could be a potential strategy for managing certain forms of alopecia.
