TLDR Be cautious with health info on TikTok; many videos have questionable content, but those by healthcare providers are better.
This rapid review highlights that while TikTok is a popular platform for sharing health-related information, viewers should exercise caution as 42% of the videos assessed contained questionable information. Videos produced by healthcare providers were found to be of significantly higher quality compared to those by general users. The study also notes the limitations of current tools like DISCERN and PRMAT-AV in evaluating short-form video content, suggesting the need for a new objective scoring system to better assess the quality of healthcare-related videos on TikTok.
