TLDR Nepalese patients with hair loss, especially women and those with androgenetic alopecia, experience a significant decrease in quality of life.
The study "Quality of Life in Nepalese Patients with Non-Scarring Alopecia" observed 142 patients with alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia from September 2020 to August 2021. The results showed that the quality of life was more affected in females than in males for both types of hair loss. However, patients with androgenetic alopecia experienced a greater impairment than those with alopecia areata. The mean total of Dermatology Life Quality Index score was 8.16 (±6.126), with females scoring 9.16±5.858, significantly higher than males who scored 7.37±6.258. The score for androgenetic patients (9.45±6.094) was significantly higher than that of areata patients (5.65±5.417). The study also found that the duration of the disease and hair loss in any first-degree relative significantly increased the impairment in quality of life.

They are considering seeing a dermatologist, while others suggest the issue might be unrelated to finasteride, possibly due to deficiencies or other conditions.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
