TLDR Pustules are pus-filled bumps often seen in skin conditions like acne and infections.
Pustules are collections of neutrophils found superficially in hair follicles or just below the stratum corneum, associated with conditions like acne, folliculitis, impetigo, and candidiasis. They may not always be the predominant feature, as seen in acne where comedones or papules might be present, or in impetigo where only crusts remain after pustules break and dry. Pus often indicates infection, but not all pustular dermatoses are caused by pathogens. Simple lab tests can confirm infections when suspected. The document also lists common and rare pustular diseases.
