TLDR Hair transplant surgery successfully restored a woman's pubic hair, improving her appearance and satisfaction.
In 2008, Marco Toscani, MD, Paolo Fioramonti, MD, Antonio Rusciani, MD, and Nicolò Scuderi, MD, reported a case of a 41-year-old woman who underwent pubic hair transplantation due to psychological distress caused by excessive pubic hair thinning. The patient did not have any identifiable cause for her pubic alopecia. The surgical procedure involved transplanting follicular units from the scalp to the pubic area and labia majora under local anesthesia, using a total of 310 follicular units, with 100 units implanted on the labia majora. The surgery lasted 4 hours, and the patient was advised not to wash the area for 1 week post-operation. At the 1-year follow-up, the transplanted hair exhibited a natural curl, improving the aesthetic result and the patient's satisfaction. The case demonstrated that follicular unit transplantation is an effective and natural-looking option for restoring pubic hair, with the authors emphasizing the importance of considering individual style and the need for an irregular hairline for the most natural appearance.
