TLDR Glucocorticoids can cause long-term loss of body hair by lowering adrenal androgens.
A woman who had previously undergone bilateral oophorectomy experienced loss of pubic and axillary hair after being treated with glucocorticoids. Despite normal cortisol and aldosterone levels, her serum androgens were low. This condition persisted for at least 3 years and was likely due to the prolonged selective suppression of adrenal androgens by glucocorticoids.
