TLDR Hair restoration surgery can effectively increase pubic hair density, with patient satisfaction and natural results largely depending on the chosen hair pattern and graft design.
In 1999, a study by Chang Kwun Hong and Han Gyu Choi involved 10 female patients with Hypotrichosis of the pubis, a condition causing low pubic hair density. The patients chose from four pubic hair patterns and underwent hair restoration using a one- to three-haired mini-micrograft technique. Most patients preferred the horizontal pattern, and two required two operations for the acuminate-type hair. The survival rate of the transplanted hair was 80-90%. The study concluded that understanding the patient's desired pubic hair pattern and designing the graft accordingly is crucial for patient satisfaction and natural results. The document also discussed the stability of pubic hair, the role of androgens in hair growth, and the treatment of hairless mons, suggesting surgical mini-micrografting as the definitive treatment for most cases of Hypotrichosis Pubis, provided medical conditions are excluded. The design of the graft was considered crucial for a natural appearance.
