TLDR Pneumatic Skin Flattening (PSF) significantly reduces pain during laser and IPL hair removal.
The study investigated the use of pneumatic skin flattening (PSF) to reduce pain and post-treatment erythema during hair removal with high-energy density lasers and IPLs. Conducted on 40 treatment sites, the study found that PSF significantly reduced pain, even with 30% higher energy levels, and decreased post-treatment erythema and edema. The use of a vacuum chamber and sapphire window provided thermal protection and enhanced hair removal efficacy, allowing for faster treatments without the need for topical anesthetics. Additionally, PSF improved the treatment of thin hair in light-skinned patients using specific wavelengths and pulse durations.
