The systematic review aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as an adjunctive treatment to hair transplantation in individuals with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The review will include randomized controlled trials and prospective non-randomized clinical studies comparing hair transplantation with and without PRP. The primary outcomes of interest are improvements in hair density, hair thickness, and graft survival. The review will synthesize data descriptively due to expected heterogeneity in PRP protocols and study designs, and no meta-analysis will be performed. The study is limited to English-language articles and involves researchers from Thailand.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

Men with hair loss might have lichen planopilaris (LPP), which can mimic androgenetic alopecia, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment with finasteride or dutasteride. Proper diagnosis, including biopsies, is crucial to distinguish between androgenetic alopecia and conditions like LPP.
