TLDR PRP injections help with carpal tunnel symptoms short-term, but more research is needed for long-term effects.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) by analyzing eight randomized controlled trials with 436 participants. PRP injections significantly reduced symptom severity scale (SSS) scores compared to control treatments, indicating improved short-term efficacy. However, there were no significant differences in other measures such as visual analogue scale (VAS), functional status scale (FSS), distal motor latency (DML), sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), sensory peak latency (SPL), and cross-sectional area (CSA) of the median nerve. The study concluded that while PRP injections showed promise in reducing symptom severity, further research was needed to confirm its overall effectiveness and safety compared to other conservative treatments.
