TLDR Combining platelet-rich plasma with laser therapy improves treatment for vitiligo, skin rejuvenation, and acne scars, but more research is needed.
The systematic review analyzed 11 randomized control trials from 2012 to 2022, investigating the combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and laser therapy for treating vitiligo, skin rejuvenation, and acne scarring. Four studies found that fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing combined with PRP was most effective for vitiligo treatment. One study reported improvements in skin elasticity, texture, erythema reduction, and increased collagen density when using fractional laser with PRP for skin rejuvenation. All six studies examining the combination of fractional CO2 laser and PRP for acne scarring showed greater clinical improvement and faster recovery of laser-damaged skin. Despite these promising results, the review calls for more studies with larger sample sizes and diverse skin types to further establish the clinical benefits of combining laser therapy with PRP in dermatology.
