TLDR PRP may improve early ACL healing, but long-term effects are unclear.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) shows promise in enhancing initial healing and reducing postoperative complications in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), with significant early benefits in ligamentisation and vascularisation. However, its long-term efficacy remains inconsistent, and outcome variability highlights the need for further high-quality research to optimize PRP formulations and applications. PRP may also serve as a non-surgical alternative for small ACL tears. The article emphasizes the potential of PRP to impact orthopaedics and sports medicine by improving recovery pathways and patient outcomes, but stresses the necessity for targeted research to fully realize its therapeutic potential in ACL treatment.
