TLDR A girl with type 1 diabetes developed a serious eye condition very early, suggesting the need for earlier eye checks and that early treatment can work well.
The document described a 15-year-old female with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) who developed high-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) just 5 months after diagnosis, an unusually rapid progression. Her condition improved significantly with tight glycemic control, intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections, and peripheral laser photocoagulation. The case highlighted the importance of early and possibly more frequent diabetic retinopathy (DR) screenings in T1DM patients, especially those with poor metabolic control, and confirmed the effectiveness of current treatments for PDR.
