TLDR Women with female pattern hair loss may have a higher risk of metabolic syndrome.
The study examined the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in premenopausal women with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) using a case-control design with 62 participants. Women with FPHL had significantly higher waist circumference and body mass index compared to controls, suggesting a potential link between FPHL and MS. However, no significant differences were observed in fasting insulin levels, lipid profiles, and blood glucose levels. The findings highlight the importance of early screening and preventive measures for MS in women with FPHL and recommend further research with larger samples and detailed hormonal assessments.
