TLDR Dermatologists in Spain now mostly prescribe oral minoxidil and dutasteride for hair loss.
A recent study surveyed 202 dermatologists in Spain to assess current prescribing habits for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to 2019–2020. The findings indicate a significant shift towards oral minoxidil as the most prescribed treatment for AGA across all patient groups, with 89.1% for male AGA, 92.1% for premenopausal female AGA, and 93.1% for postmenopausal female AGA. Additionally, oral dutasteride has overtaken finasteride as the preferred antiandrogen for male AGA, while spironolactone is now favored for premenopausal AGA. For postmenopausal AGA, dutasteride has become the leading antiandrogen, replacing finasteride. This reflects evolving trends in AGA management and the growing acceptance of these treatments.
