TLDR PPAR-γ may be a key target for treating alopecia areata and other skin conditions.
This study on an Egyptian sample explored the role of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-Gamma (PPAR-γ) in alopecia areata (AA) with 10 participants, equally divided between AA patients and healthy controls. Significant differences in PPAR-γ tissue expression were observed between the groups, indicating its crucial role in AA pathogenesis. The findings suggest PPAR-γ as a potential therapeutic target for AA and other inflammatory skin conditions due to its regulatory effects on inflammation, lipid metabolism, and immune response.
