TLDR Neem extract is safe for pregnant or lactating rats at tested doses.
The study assessed the effects of ethanol extract of Neem leaves on the offspring of 24 female Wistar rats during pregnancy and lactation. The rats were divided into control and three experimental groups, receiving 65, 135, and 200 mg/kg of Neem extract. The results indicated no significant differences in body mass index, survival rate, or developmental milestones such as hair growth, teeth eruption, and motor activity among the groups. The Neem extract did not cause reproductive or systemic toxicity, suggesting it was safe at the tested doses for pregnant or lactating rats.
