TLDR A portable device can create nanofibers to improve the appearance of thinning hair better than commercial products.
The study designed a portable electrospinning device capable of producing nanofibers with diameters between 85 and 600 nm, similar to traditional benchtop electrospinners but with added mobility and safety features. This device was used to apply dyed polyacrylonitrile nanofibers directly to the skin of a mouse model to simulate hair loss treatment. The nanofiber treatment improved the appearance of thinning hair and adhered better than a commercial powder product, suggesting potential for consumer use in cosmetic treatments for alopecia.
