TLDR Pomiferin may improve skin and scalp health by boosting important protein expression.
In a study from 2015, Pomiferin, a prenylated isoflavonoid derived from the fruit of Maclura pomifera, was found to be a potent stimulant of extracellular matrix proteins, outperforming the structurally similar molecule Osajin due to the presence of an aromatic hydroxyl group. In vitro tests on Normal Human Dermal Fibroblasts showed that Pomiferin increased the expression of collagen, elastin, and fibrillin at levels comparable or superior to retinol. Additionally, ex vivo hair follicle assays indicated that Pomiferin could significantly enhance collagen and elastin expression within a concentration range of 0.05–5 ppm. These findings suggest that Pomiferin has potential as an ingredient in topical treatments aimed at improving skin and scalp health by modulating extracellular matrix protein expression.
