Polevan: A Multifunctional Natural Hair Ingredient, as Determined by In-Vitro and Human Studies

The study on POLEVAN®, a levan-based polysaccharide, highlights its multifunctional benefits in hair and skincare products. Shampoos with 2% POLEVAN® significantly increased hair glossiness by 24% and improved foam stability, allowing for reduced surfactant concentrations. In a clinical trial with 22 female volunteers aged 40-70, POLEVAN® matched the moisturizing efficacy of hyaluronic acid, improving skin hydration and reducing trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) without adverse effects. These findings suggest POLEVAN® as a promising natural ingredient for enhancing the sensory and functional properties of hair care products, though further research is recommended.
