TLDR Plant extracts can help remove permanent makeup without lasers.
The study investigated non-laser methods for removing permanent makeup (PMU) using plant-based extracts, specifically Pelargonium zonale leaves and polyphenol oxidase from Agaricus bisporus, on 30 SKH-1 hairless mice. Two methods were tested: traditional tattooing with plant extracts and electroporation technology combined with plant materials. Over 73 days, 8 removal procedures were conducted. Results showed that plant-based materials effectively reduced PMU color intensity, with Pelargonium zonale showing significant decolorization. Electroporation enhanced penetration but was less effective in discoloration compared to the PMU machine. The study concluded that plant-based materials, particularly when used with a PMU machine, are effective for PMU removal without damaging the skin, offering a safer alternative to traditional methods like lasers, which can cause skin irritation and scarring.
