TLDR Micropigmentation is a cosmetic tattooing technique for hiding skin issues and creating permanent makeup, but it can have side effects.
Micropigmentation, or dermatography, is a cosmetic tattooing technique used to camouflage skin conditions like vitiligo and alopecia. The technique involves implanting nontoxic, nonallergenic pigment granules into the dermis using electrically driven needles. It's also used for permanent makeup, managing madarosis (loss of eyebrows or eyelashes), improving the cosmetic outcome of androgenic alopecia and various types of cicatricial alopecias, and camouflaging small scars. Adverse effects can include immediate side effects like edema and ecchymosis, delayed hypersensitivity reactions, and rare late side effects like photo-allergic reactions and blurring of pigment. Micropigmentation is also used in nipple-areola reconstruction after mastectomy, hair simulation on bald scalps, and non-laser tattoo removal systems.
