TLDR Plasma therapy is becoming more popular for treating viral infections, skin conditions, and orthopedic issues, and is expected to grow in the healthcare market.
Plasma therapy, also known as convalescent plasma therapy, uses the blood from a person who has recovered from a specific illness to help others suffering from the same disease. The plasma contains antibodies that can help patients fight the illness, especially if their immune system is compromised by viruses or pathogens. This therapy is used in wound healing, face rejuvenation, and androgenetic alopecia, and has been used to help patients suffering from Covid-19. The global plasma therapy market is expected to reach $698.46 million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 8.5% from 2021 to 2030. The rise in the geriatric population, prevalence of rare diseases, increase in androgenic alopecia patients, and increase in plasma collection centers have boosted the market growth. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, a type of plasma therapy, has gained popularity for treating dermatological diseases and stimulating hair growth. PRP therapy is also used for treating back pain and orthopedic conditions, offering long-lasting benefits with fewer risks and side effects. However, the use of plasma therapy for Covid-19 treatment has been controversial, with some studies indicating it may foster more virulent strains of the virus. Despite this, plasma therapy remains a promising treatment option for various conditions.
