TLDR Cirsium japonicum var. spinossimum seeds may help reduce inflammation and fight cancer.
The study evaluated the pharmacological activities of Cirsium japonicum var. spinossimum, focusing on its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cell proliferation effects. The seed extract had the highest polyphenol and flavonoid content and showed strong antioxidant activity. It significantly inhibited nitric oxide production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells and promoted cell proliferation in Jurkat and human follicle dermal papilla cells at 25 µg/mL. These findings suggest that C. japonicum var. spinossimum seeds are a promising source of anti-inflammatory and anticancer agents.
