TLDR Finasteride may cause long-lasting sexual side effects.
This article discusses the potential for persistent sexual side effects associated with the use of finasteride, a medication used for male pattern hair loss and benign prostatic hypertrophy. A clinical series found that 20% of subjects reported persistent sexual dysfunction for at least 6 years, suggesting the possibility that the dysfunction may be permanent. In a prospective study of 54 subjects with persistent sexual side effects associated with finasteride, 96% of subjects still had sexual side effects after 9-16 months. The study suggests that prescribers and users of finasteride should be aware of the potential adverse medication effects.
