TLDR A patient experienced permanent hair loss due to an allergic reaction to a corticosteroid injection.
This case report described a rare instance of permanent hair loss in a patient due to an allergic reaction to a mesotherapy mixture containing triamcinolone acetonide. The patient was diagnosed with scarring alopecia caused by a delayed type IV hypersensitivity reaction to the corticosteroid, confirmed by a positive intradermal allergic skin test. The study highlighted the importance for dermatologists to be aware of both IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions to corticosteroids and mesotherapy excipients to prevent irreversible adverse events.
