TLDR Increasing PDCD4 protein may help prevent or treat some skin cancers.
The study examined the expression of the programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4) protein in normal human skin and various skin lesions, finding it primarily in the suprabasal layer of the epidermis and the outer root sheath of hair follicles. PDCD4 expression was reduced or absent in skin lesions like seborrheic keratosis and carcinomas. Growth factors such as EGF, TGF-β1, and HGF were found to downregulate PDCD4 in keratinocytes, suggesting environmental influence on its expression. The study suggested PDCD4's potential role in keratinocyte differentiation and apoptosis, and its low expression in carcinoma cell lines indicated its potential as a target for cancer prevention and therapy. Further research was recommended on PDCD4's role in hair follicle phases and regulation by dermal factors.

community Fats on your Head to Stop Hair Loss?

      in Research/Science  140 upvotes 1 year ago
The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.

Microneedling for hair restoration involves daily use of a 0.3 mm device and weekly use of a 0.5 mm device. Combining microneedling with Minoxidil can enhance hair growth.

community Why I really believe the tension theory is the cause of MPB

      in Research/Science  70 upvotes 4 years ago
The conversation discusses the tension theory as a cause of male pattern baldness (MPB), suggesting that scalp tension and reduced subcutaneous fat layer contribute to hair loss. Treatments mentioned include Minoxidil, finasteride, microneedling, scalp massages, and Botox.
