TLDR The process effectively regenerates the Pd/C catalyst for finasteride synthesis.
The study investigated the regeneration of a Pd/C catalyst used in finasteride synthesis through an extraction-oxidation process. It was found that treating 1 g of used Pd/C catalyst with 30 mL of methanol at its boiling point for 60 minutes, followed by oxidation with 35% nitric acid at 80°C for 30 minutes, resulted in a pregnendone conversion rate of 97.5%. The research focused on optimizing the methanol amount, reflux time, and nitric acid concentration to achieve effective catalyst regeneration.
