TLDR PCOS is common, affects fertility, and needs early diagnosis and lifestyle changes for management.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) was a common gynecological disorder that adversely affected the population, causing infertility by disrupting the ovulatory process and increasing male hormone levels in females. It had multiple etiologies, including genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, but its pathogenesis remained unclear. PCOS was polygenic with various symptoms, often arising during puberty, and was notably marked by insulin resistance. Awareness among females about PCOS was low, highlighting the need for more research to promote management through lifestyle modifications like diet and physical activity. Early diagnosis and treatment were crucial.
