    The 2017 review paper discussed Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common cause of menstrual complications in women, characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulation abnormalities, and enlarged or polycystic ovaries. PCOS is often linked with hyperinsulinemia, dyslipidemia, overweight or obesity, and poses a risk for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The paper explored both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options, including those approved by scientific organizations and new therapies with promising initial results. Treatments mentioned included statins, metformin, and other medications.
