TLDR Oral minoxidil reduced hair shedding in women with chronic telogen effluvium.
This study evaluated the use of once daily oral minoxidil in 36 women with chronic telogen effluvium (CTE). Over 12 months, participants experienced a significant reduction in hair shedding scores, with a decrease of 1.7 at 6 months and 2.58 at 12 months (p<0.001). Some women reported improvement in trichodynia, and side effects included facial hypertrichosis in 13 women, transient postural dizziness in 2, and ankle oedema in 1. No hematological abnormalities were observed. The study concluded that oral minoxidil reduced hair shedding in CTE, but recommended placebo-controlled studies for further validation.
