TLDR Recognizing oral symptoms can help diagnose and treat blood and nutritional diseases early.
The document reviewed the oral manifestations of various hematologic and nutritional diseases, emphasizing the importance of recognizing these signs for early diagnosis and treatment of the underlying conditions. It covered white and red blood cell disorders, including cyclic hematopoiesis, leukemias, lymphomas, anemias, and thrombocytopenia, and their oral symptoms such as mucosal pallor, angular cheilitis, atrophic glossitis, and osteolytic lesions. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly of water-soluble vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12) and fat-soluble vitamins (A, C, D, E, K), were discussed in detail, including their functions, dietary sources, absorption, clinical presentations, and treatment. Conditions like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa were also mentioned for their impact on oral health. The review highlighted the rapid epithelial turnover of the oral cavity, which often shows early signs of systemic diseases, medications, or nutritional deficiencies.
