TLDR Older women reported negative physical and psychological effects from Botox and facial fillers, feeling neglected by the medical system.
The study explored the negative psychological and physical experiences of seven women aged 43-64 who underwent Botox and/or facial filler injections. The participants reported a range of adverse effects, including pain, anxiety, fatigue, and heightened sensitivities, with four experiencing life-altering side effects. They felt commodified and abandoned by the medical system, which they believed prioritized profit over patient care, and reported a lack of informed consent and inadequate medical support post-treatment. Despite these challenges, some women developed a reflective outlook, prioritizing health over appearance. The study highlighted issues of sexism, ageism, and the ethical responsibilities of healthcare providers.
