TLDR Injectables can feminize or masculinize a transgender person's face, but more research is needed for best practices.
The document reviewed the literature on nonsurgical methods for facial masculinization and feminization for transgender patients, using a comprehensive search of PubMed and MedLine databases up to December 2017. Only four articles met the inclusion criteria, indicating a scarcity of published data on the use of facial injectables in transgender individuals. Consequently, the authors relied on data from cisgender patients to provide an overview of techniques. They concluded that facial feminization could be achieved with injectables for brow elevation, lip and malar augmentation, and wrinkle improvement, while masculinization could be accomplished through injectables for chin, jawline, and brow ridge augmentation. The authors emphasized the need to develop best practices for these techniques in transgender patients and to raise awareness about nonsurgical options.
