TLDR Digital imaging can effectively evaluate the donor area for hair transplants, showing variations in hair density and grouping by age and severity of hair loss.
The study, conducted over the course of 2017, involved 30 male patients with Androgenetic Alopecia and aimed to evaluate the donor area for hair transplantation using trichoscopic digital imaging. The results indicated an average hair follicular unit density of 112.5 and hair density of 220.5 per cm² in the donor area, with single hairs being the most common grouping at 42.3%. The average total number of follicular units was 13,560, and the total number of hairs was 26,573. The study concluded that assessing the donor area is essential for planning hair transplantation and predicting outcomes, noting that hair density and grouping can vary with AGA severity and patient age.
