TLDR NMN supplements may improve hair quality and appearance in middle-aged women.
The study examined the effects of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) supplementation on hair quality in 15 middle-aged Japanese women over 12 weeks. Results showed significant improvements in hair growth, with anagen hair elongation density increasing and hair diameter thickening. Subjective assessments reported enhanced hair elasticity, gloss, and volume, along with reduced perceptions of fatigue and hair loss. Metabolomic analyses revealed changes in amino acids and energy metabolism-related compounds, though no significant changes in hair hormone concentrations were observed. Despite a decrease in total hair density, possibly due to seasonal factors, the study suggests NMN may improve hair quality and appearance, though further research is needed due to the small sample size and lack of placebo controls.
