TLDR Niosomes are effective carriers for targeted drug delivery, improving drug stability and efficiency.
Niosomes, with their bi-layer structure made of non-ionic surfactants, are effective nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery, enhancing drug bioavailability at specific locations. Their amphiphilic nature allows them to encapsulate both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs efficiently. The addition of ingredients like cholesterol helps maintain structural integrity. Compared to liposomes, niosomes offer greater chemical stability and therapeutic efficiency by preventing drugs from exiting circulation too quickly and reducing their impact on target cells. Recent advancements in niosomal drug delivery, including proniosomes and aspasomes, show promise for highly targeted, non-infective, and non-cancer applications. Niosomes also hold potential in vaccines and diagnostic tests, necessitating further research and development to optimize their market preparations.
