TLDR NGF and minoxidil promote hair growth, while 17 beta-E2 inhibits it.
The study investigated the effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) and estrogens on human hair follicles in vitro. It found that 100 ng/ml of NGF and 125 micrograms/ml of minoxidil promoted hair follicle growth, while 0.5 microgram/ml of 17 beta-E2 inhibited it. Additionally, 100 ng/ml of NGF was able to neutralize the inhibitory effect of 0.5 microgram/ml 17 beta-E2 on hair follicle growth.
